My Axim is dead after an A02->A05 ROM upgrade

I have a Dell Axim x50v that was running ROM version A02. It's been unused for quite awhile and I figured I'd update it to the latest ROM (A05). I downloaded A05 and executed the program. I backed up A02 and then proceeded but about 15% of the way through, I got an error that the USB device was disconnected (?). I didn't disconnect anything! However, I was using my PC at the time, with multiple applications open. Could this have caused it?

Regardless, I now have a completely dead Axim. When the error appeared on my PC, the Axim froze on the progress bar screen, so I turned it off. However, the device will not power back on again .

Is there a way to get into FLASH mode to restore the ROM? I read online that you can do this with the HP iPaq units.

I found that post a little after I posted this thread.

However, when I do the SD image load, the PDA only completes about 50% of the OS re-load (it re-loads the boot loader fine) and then freezes .

Any ideas anyone?

The problem you have is to identify which bootloader your axim is now expecting. As posted in the link, the bootoader is dependant on the OS and you cannot mix Bootloaders from WM5 and PPC2003SE.

I suspect from what you have described, you have used the wrong one, try the other one..... However as also posted in the link. get it wrong and you have an expensive paperweight.

I think you have to take a leap of faith and assuem that either now you have a paperweight or by trying an alternative file, you may creat one.

Remember , you could always opt to either send it away for repair to some one like pocketpctechs.com or consider cutting your losses and selling it on ebay and buying another.
