Memory error?

The following has happened to me twice:

I will pick up my Axim x50v after having it in standby for a while and notice it is very warm. I cannot turn it on, so I open the battery compartment and remove the battery, and discover the battery is also hot. I replace the battery, and attempt to turn it on again. This time, it comes on but displays a message saying that there has been a memory error and prompts me to press the Contacts button to continue.

The Axim works fine afterwards, but I fear that this, if it continues to happen, will damage the device. Has anyone heard of this problem and know what can be done to prevent it?

Um, never heard of this problem, but send it back to dell (after backing up all your files to your computer or a cd) and get a new one. that is the only thing i would know of which to do.

Same thing happened to me. recently upgraded to the A02 rom image. No issues whatsoever. Now after soft reset hangs at dell screen. And removing the battery does not allow me to boot, although i get the same memory error message.

I had the exact same thing happen to me for the first time today. (That's the reason I searched out this forum.)

I last used my X50 last night to add an appointment to the calendar. I turned the device off, closed the case, and then 18 hours later when I went to turn it on again, I noticed the backside was warm, like it had been on for a LONG time. Connecting the cable to sync did not turn the unit on. I then tried the power switch and it did not work either. Taking the battery out for 15 seconds and replacing allowed the unit to come up with the memory error. Pressing the Conact button as instructed brought up my password screen and all seems normal now.

The device has been flawless for the 4 months that I have had it (purchased new). The only recent changes are:

Installed Nice Start (a password app)

Left on the charger for 48 hours over the weekend. I usually only charge it for about 12 hours before I grab it and go.

Any others experience this? Have any ideas?

[font=Arial][size=7][color=red]concerning overheating axim batteries, I have had it get extraordinary hot on 2 occasions, this with a newer replacement battery after the original failed to hold a charge. hard reset and update to A02 seemed to resolve. axim was off when battery overheated and discharged. was too hot to hold at the time, discharge in full in 30 minutes. :/

jmcbrid1, you actually have an unrelated problem (I think). Try hard resetting. That should solve your problem. It actually happened to me once, but I don't think it's related to this problem.
