Transferring programs to compact flash

Can anyone explain how to transfer files from desktop computer to X50V compact flash card.

The method I use is to dock the Axim and open Activesync. Open the explore function of Activesync and go to the cf or sd card. Put this window off to one side of your screen.

Now open Windows explorer and put that window on the other side of your sccreen. Now in the windows ex. screen navigate to the file you want and simply right click and hold then drag to the activesync window and release.

A menu will pop up, select copy here and the rest is automatic. Note you can select an entire folder or multiple files (hold down the Ctrl key while left clicking multiple files) before right clicking and holding on any selected file.

This method works with pdf files, mp3 files or any other types of files that are NOT program files. The files are copied directly to the cf or sd card without the hassle of sync'ing it then moving it.

To save a program file to a sd or cf card you have to select the alternate location during the install.

If you want to save yourself some headaches, I would invest in an SD/CF Reader/Writer for your PC. This way, you remove the SD or CF card from your Axim, put the card in the reader (which attaches to your PC), transfer the files, then put the CD or SD card back into your Axim. Lots of folks have had problems using the ActiveSync method with larger files. I would pick one up, you'll soon see why it is a wise investment

I am too trying to utilize the SD and CF for programs. In fact, a 512 SD card will handle all of my big programs like Adobe Acrobat, Delorme GPS, and others. The problem I find is that eventhough I install to the external location, it still seems to take up main memory. It must be due to installing files in the windows directory. Does anyone have any info on memory management utilities and/or ability to do a full install on a SD/CF card?
