CF slot may be corrupted?!

Hi I've got a Navman GPS reciever that I'm trying to get running (without success so far of course). I'm starting to think that the CF reciever itself is not being detected correctly when I plug it in.

When I click the GPS tool I get no details of a status, and on the GPS tab I can't select a card or reciever from the drop downs (drops downs are greyed out)

This is exactly the same behaviour as when the card is not plugged in.

I have also another GPS card (BC-307) which does the same thing. The led on the side of the CF card comes on momentarily then turns off.

Is there a way to chekc that the GPS interface is OK?

Also is there a way to thoroughly uninstall software? I'm thinking that something might have locked that port, and a reinstall of the same software has not been able to gain access to the hardware because the dormant one has it locked. I've notticed that installs of "Smartpath City" are appearing as "Smartpath City(2)" and "Smartpath City(3)" etc. This kind of bug makes me twitchy.

I really don't have any experience of these CF GPS cards, but I suppose a good way to test the slot is with a normal CF storage card. If the axim can read it the slots OK. The software duplication would seem to be a problem. Maybe a hard reset and try with a clean device?

Yeah i've done a hard reset. No change. Part of my problem is that I don't know anyone with either a spare CF device (ie memory) or a CF reader (ie laptop/pda).

you should be able to get a small CF card for nothing!!!!
