Axim X50V
Just upgraded to an X50V. Got a good deal on a mint condition one. Love but still getting used to it. The one problem is it did not com with the sync disc which I was aware of before purchasing it. Are there any free downloads out there or am I going have to look for it and purchase it?

You can download the sync program from Microsoft, and that way you will get the new version. And if you are using Vista, then you need the new program anyway to work with Vista and the Axim x50v. I love mine. There are so many apps for it, you just need to google a software page and view them. You can find many listed on this site. Have fun with it.

Welcome to the site, you need activesync, and Outlook, I just posted a link in the previous post! You will need a license for outlook, try ebay for an installation CD if you do not already have it! If you have Vista or 7, you need WMDC, but you can find that at the same link I posted to sjslate

Thanks for the replies. Had a Axim X3 few years back so this was a nice upgrade . So one reply says I can get the sync from windows and one says to look on e-bay for the disk? If I go the windows route is there anything extra I need to provide for the download. Also if I go to google can I download the apps without the sync to my pc? What would happen if I plug into my pc with out the sync disk installed first? Yeah I know lots of questions you pobably already heard from another new comer. Thanks for the help so far.

You can get the sync software here, you only need the installation CD if you need a licensed copy of outlook to sync with. It will not sync with outlook express. Active sync is what you will be downloading, and that installs on the PC, if you are running Vista or 7 you need Windows Mobile Device Centre, which can also be found at the same link above. You can also search microsioft downloads for ROM updates, depending what Rom the x50 has installed now. it should be WM2003SE if it is up to date. You can find the ROM version in settings/system/about, it should be A03 I think.
If you plug the axim into the PC the computer should detect and install the new hardware, one done you can browse the devices contents from the PC.
 Merry Christmas

Starting to get the hang of it slowly. Got the activesync downloaded thanks to this forum. If I understand it right I also need Outlook? Which version and where can it be found. Running XP Pro on my desktop and Vista on my laptop, both have Outlook Express. Does anyone know how big of an SD card it will hold?

Outlook 2002, as I said earlier it won't sync with Outlook Express.

Finally had some extra time to play around with it. The ROM version I found in the System Information is A10 (5.2.5CFA).

Battery
Another question. Any suggestions on a good brand battery. The one that came with it must be the original because it gets used up pretty quick.

I bought a no-name battery for my X51v from eBay and it works really well. It's a 2250 mAh oversize one which came with its own backplate and I can watch videos for 5-6 hours. I don't know if a specific brand is worth paying extra for - as long as the supplier states that it's for your model it'll probably be fine.
