More questions
Does the Axim x50v only read SD cards and not SDHC cards? How large of a card will it handle (GB's)? Same with the CF cards is there a limit. Is there a software card needed for the GPS system? I am assuming that you videos and music are read off of the cards and must be in a Windows Media format.

SD only, although I do recall a .cab file with the sdhc support drivers extracted from wm6.1, although I don't think it was for wm2003se. yet, this looks like the file. As a standard though, I think the x50v would only support 1Gb sd card. CF cards, up to 16 Gb. Although you may need to format them to a FAT file system.
You will need software and a GPS receiver to run a GPS system. Can be found, but I was looking at Garmins site yesterday, and their CF GPS Units, the CF QUE, have been discontinued.
As for media, you are correct, but there are plenty of free media players that will handle ather formats as well.

Still have not found a copy of Outlook. Did load the latest sync. My PDA will sync up with my PC but the one thing that comes up is that it will not complete sync with Windows Media and prompts me to put a 32 mb card or larger in the PDA and then select the card to complete the sync. Is this just to transfer media files? Also without the Outlook installed I am assuming that I cannot transfer any note or calender events and does that include any other transfers? Thanks for the help . Really need to look into one or two more new batteries. This one dies out withing 10 to 15 minutes if not plugged into the AC.

Active sync is what you will be downloading, and that installs on the PC, if you are running Vista or 7 you need Windows Mobile Device Centre, which can also be found at the same link above. You can also search microsioft downloads for ROM updates, depending what Rom the x50 has installed now. it should be WM2003SE if it is up to date. You can find the ROM version in settings/system/about, it should be A03 I think.
If you plug the axim into the PC the computer should detect and install the new hardware, one done you can browse the devices contents from the PC.

I upgraded my Desktop and laptops to Windows 7 Pro. My Dell Axim X50v and X51v both would sync alright under XP Pro. I installed Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 several times as well as Outlook 2007. I finally got the X51v to sync. Both have original software on them of Windows Mobile 2003 2nd edition and Windows Mobile 5. I read that Windows Mobile device should work with both OS. I have 64 bit version of Windows 7 and Windows Mobile Device. I believe the X51V is using the Bluetooth connection to connect with my Desktop. I set up X50v the same way but for reasons I can't figure out it won't work. Any ideas of how to trouble shoot or repair problem?

Not using 7, but would suggest setting up sync with a USB cable, before trying BT sync with the x50v.

I am using USB cradle connection. Both connect fine and try to sync. sometimes the X51v succeeds, sometimes it fails but give no explanation. The X50v has not succeeded although the sync circle starts rotating at top of Axim screen. Nothing else happens. I have deleted the partnership several times, done several soft resets, and it currently states the X50v is ready for first sync but nothing else happens.
Any idea on how to get both to work in more reliable fashion. The connection seem ok since i can browse files on axim on my desktop once they are connected. I figure there must be some software issue somewhere on axims or desktop but don't know how to search for it. I could try sync with one of my laptops to see if that works any better. All have same windows 7 OS software.

Well if it's not a 7 issue, I would look at Outlook compatability. the x51v shipped with Outlook xp, 2002 version, that's what I'm still using! That's all I can think of

Ok, so the last post I put I ended up with a reply from someone else with a question and mine was never answered. I realize that the ones with experience on the PDA's are asked the same questions over and over from new newbies and it can get to be boring. Went to the Dell site and am still waiting after a day and a half, that's why I keep returning to the forum. I am going to asked again, how large of an SD card will the PDA read because I have seen numerous ones for sale of different size Gb's advertised for the x50v and seen different replies. Also the second card slot, how large of a card will it handle? Love the PDA I have but would also like to get the most out of it.
