Axim X5 mic not working with Skype

I have an Axim X5 and I have downloaded the Skype Windows Mobile software. It looks great. It sounds OK, but not all that loud. My microphone works OK for recording, but it is not recognized by Skype. I'm guessing I have a wrong setting, or the microphone only works for recording. Anyone know how to correct the problem?
