Can my X5 Control My Vista Laptop?

I have a new vista laptop and it doesn't have a remote control like the toshiba one we bought a couple of years ago did - gateway skimped there I guess.

I am wondering if I can't get the axim to do it infrared?

Any idea if it's possible or how I might be able to do it? Basically only the media functions so I can set it across the room and still control a movie or music app.
