Axim X5 won't connect

I bought an X5 last year. I didn't get the manual but installed it on XP with no problems. I didn't have outlook I just wanted to put nursing software on it. I installed one program and it worked fine. I put it in a drawer and forgot about it. I have it out now and have been trying to get it to work and it won't connect to Activesync I will connect for a few seconds then disconnect. But the wizard doesn't recognize it at all. I redownloaded activesync 3.8 thinking the newest version wasn't supported. Does anyone know why this is happening.

Update Ok... I installed the new program I wanted to install on the axim on my laptop. I plugged axim in. It installed the program on the axim then immediately after said not connected. Every time I run the connection wizard, it says it doesn't detect it. Yet it installed the program...??? Do I have to setup an account with outlook first. I have it installed just don't want to pay yahoo to send my mail there.

Hi Kim-

Try installing ActiveSync 4.5, there is a known issue with ActiveSync 3.x using up virtual com ports. Also, have you tried soft resetting the Axim? What about plugging it into another USB port?

I tried active synch 4.5 first and got the same problem. That is why I went back and got the earlier version. It is just weird because I know I didn't have any issues last year. I haven't tried resetting the axim itself. Although I reset it about a month ago when I pulled it out of the box.

Another thing you could try is deleting the profiles on the desktop within ActiveSync. If all else fails, hard reset the Axim. That would mean that you have to reinstall your software though.
