Dell Axim X5 won't turn on

I've had my Axim turned off for about a year, and the other day I figured out a use for it but it doesn't charge or turn on. Would the Axim x5 turn on if plugged into the charger without a battery plugged in or with a dead battery?

It should turn on when charged even without a battery, I'd just keep fiddling with it, trying to use the reset button etc. Ive had the power really all the way down for a couple of days, and it was weird about turning back on even when charging, maybe a soft reset I have no idea Im no expert but just thought Id chime in..
