Help Needed

I'm now the proud owner of an Axim X5 given to me by my old man.

Model: Dell Axim X5
Processor Speed: 400Mhz
RAM Size: 64MB
ROM Size: 48MB
ROM Version: A04 (05200300EN)

I have no idea what OS this baby is running and whether or not it can be upgraded. I'd like to know whether or not it is possible to try and upgrade it to the most recent version possible and how I would go about doing so.

Welcome to the world of X5. I too am rather new but here is what I know. A04 is Pocket PC 2002 and you can do a rom upgrade to Pocket PC 2003, also called Windows Mobile 2003. That's it, you cannot go any newer, not evern 2003 SE.
Since Dell does not support the X5 anymore, you have two choices. IMO, the easiest way is to search E-bay for the upgrade, it'll be around $7.00 total. The other way is search in this site under the X5 forum and you will find a long listing of the hows, dos and don'ts on upgrading.
I have the same machine and with the help of the people here and the upgrade, which I got from ebay, which took about 30 minutes, my x5 runs faster with the 2003.
