    New Owner - What Software?

Nice forums - and this is my first post, so apologies in advance if my first two questions are stupid...

While waiting for activation, I browsed and searched for the answer to my questions, but to no avail. Anyway...

As the previous owner of a Jornada and current owner of a Pocketgear, when downloading PPC freebies off the net I knew that I needed to download the SH3 or ARM versions of PPC software.

My son has a new PPC and has given me his old X5 and when going back to the web sites to get versions of some of my existing PPC software for the Axim, I'm not exactly sure what version to get. XScale versions don't seem to be available.

Should I be looking for something else or is there a good site which has Axim versions of the popular free PPC software?

The other question is probably quite simple:

I've read the large thread on upgrading the Axim and mine says it's using the A05 ROM. Am I correct in thinking that if the ROM update includes the OS then my Axim now has WM 2003 - not WM 2002?

I've seen software which you can download either the 2002 or 2003 versions and all the X5 reviews I've seen says it has Windows 2002 installed.

    Thanks in advance...

    Hey TenBaz-

For the X5 you can use ARM software. X-Scale CPUs are backwards compatible with the ARM architecture.

If you install A05 (PPC/WM2003), you should install 2003 software when given the option. The sites do not know what ROM revision you're using. Enjoy your new (used) Axim!

In the system info page it says it's already using A05 ROM. But there doesn't seem to be anywhere within Windows CE that actually says 2002 or 2003, so I wasn't sure.

Thanks for the info - and apologies for the delay in replying...

Nothing special - just fun apps mainly. I'm not a serious user, so free games and stuff to play with when I'm bored is basically all I'm after. I have bought Dashboard, but now I know it's the ARM version I need I can download the correct version of that now.

A TV remote controller would be useful too...
