ActiveSync Issues

I have a 4 yr. old Dell Axim X5 w/PPC 2002 & XP, SP2 on a Gateway Notebook, using 2007 NISecurity. I've been syncing w/the Dell base it came with forever with no problems. Now it doesn't recognize a connection? I also went thru the Norton firewall adjustments with no luck. I started with AS 4.5, removed it & installed AS 3.8? Still no connection? I have MS Office 2003 Pro, and have been using it for a couple of years with no problems, until now? I have never updated PPC since I bought it new Nov. 2003?
Still no joy? Hey, how 'bout some help? I can't believe no one else has ever had this problem?

Hi Bill-

Have you made any software changes since just before you noticed the problem? If not and it's worked fine all this time, it may be an issue with your sync cradle or cable. They do wear out over time, as does the sync port of the PDA. Check the sync port for pin irregularities and if you have an alternate sync cradle or cable try using that to sync.

USB hubs and docking stations can also cause problems. Another way to test the sync hardware is to plug it into a second system with ActiveSync installed. If it picks up the Axim, you have good hardware.

Unhappy ActiveSync Issues

Thanks for the help. I have removed all of the AtiveSync SW. Installed 4.5. Used a different USB sync cable, and now says it's connected. But, I cannot exchange any info from my computer? Also, I hard reset the Axim, and when I did that, it erased all of my contacts, appointments, tasks, etc.! I'm pretty sure all of that info is on my computer? Someone told me to delete my partnership, and start a new one? AS won't let me. I still get a box that says "Connection cannot be established, reconnect & try again"? But AS says I'm connected to my partnership?

You can delete the partnership on the PC by going to File-->Delete Mobile Device in AS. You can delete the partnership on the Axim by opening ActiveSync and going to Menu-->Options and tapping and holding on each PC name and choosing Delete.

I would suggest trying to sync on another PC as well, best would be one that doesn't run the same AV and firewall software as you are. That will determine whether the problem is on the PC or PPC side.

It won't matter if you blow away your Axim contacts etc because they will come back when you sync as long as you didn't add any manually into the Axim.

Hi Bill-

Have a look at the links in this post, they are to some serious professional sites that have answers to everything AS. Oftentimes the problem comes from Outlook and the email db requires repair. Check some of the links and look around, post back if you figure it out or not.
