Maps and SD card not found!

Having tried to load Navigator 6 in various ways onto my X5, I seem to be at the point that the X5 is reporting approximately 20mb of used capacity on my SD card and about 21mb of space. I have deleted files off the SD card by plugging the card into a usb port on my PC, have I screwed up the SD card?. The capacity of the card should be 2 gb! Should I try to reformat this? Does anyone know whether the X5 can handle 2gb? I of course also had the same problem that so many others have had, that is, maps not found. Can anyone help with both of these problems, please?

SD Card and TomTom problems

I have been doing a fair bit of research on these questions myself. On the TTN6/Axim x5 issue, TomTom themselves will only reply with a stock answer - the one I eventually got was:
"With reference to your e-mail and reference to our second line technical department, please note we do not support the use on the Axim X5. We have tested it on the actual specifications of the Axim X5 by default and found it to be incompatible. We have a number of compatible PDA's listed on our website."
It is quite clear though, from reading these boards, that the Axim x5 is certainly capable of running TTN6. It does need a fix - see another thread here Tomtom 6 Maps Not found.
I haven't tried a 2GB SD card yet myself but the limitations are dealt with here: SD Card size maximum. I have had some curious messages on the Axim relating to SD cards and led me into finding a veritable can of worms. There is a whole subsite linked to Aximsite on this issue albeit no info on the latest SD cards - see http://sdprob.aximsite.com/. Hope this helps - at least you can see you are not alone!

Many thanks for your help. Having looked further at the SD card, the X5 seems to have locked up with regard to the SD card. It is reporting 21.75 mb capacity, no matter what size sd card is slotted in. It still reports 21.75 mb without any card in at all! Does this mean a hard reboot? As you showed me, others have used 2gb sd cards, so I'm still hopeful. I have ROM version AO5, pocketpc v.4.20, which I guess is 2003.

SD card error

Same build as my Axim and I have come across a similar problem. So far, it has been sorted out if I take the card out and put it back in again, or failing that I have done a soft reset. As you will know from the other links, the biggest issue is if this error is accompanied by other problems including loss of data. Therefore it would be as well not to rely on it 100% and to keep a back up of the data. I would also do a hard reset if it came to it.

I have done a soft rest several times and have now done a hard reset as well, but it hasn't solved the problem. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If the x5 is only reporting 21MB of space on th cards, then this is a major problem. Are you perhaps formatting the cards outside the axim ???

Are you also looking at the SD card when you report this memory size or perhaps you are looking at the built in storage ( you need select the memory to look at)

I would suggest you reflash the ROM,

Remove all cards , plug in the mains adapter and then press power on, contacts reset and the scroll in all at the same time. Hold for 5 seconda and then release power and reset, holding the scroll on and contacts for approx 15 secons longer, then release.

This will reload the ROM completely and hopefully cure the problem. I will warn you that this process may take a few attempts, but when it is correct, you will get a white screen with writting on that will inform you it is rewriting the rom.

Thank you for your reply. I have reformatted the sd card outside the Axim. Your question about whether I was looking at the built-in storage or the SD card was right. I was looking at the built-in storage as I could not select the SD card. I've now solved this, following your prompt. Fluff in the SD card slot! A quick blow out and I'm up and running! I have re-installed the bluetooth drivers, Navigator 6 has loaded and I'm back to the famous "maps not found". If you could resend the winrar file, I might succede. Many thanks for your help.

Now have the winrar file and have Navigator 6 running. All maps found and running on a bluetooth GPS. What a luxury. Drifter, thanks for coming up trumps yet again!
It would be nice to find good sat nav software to run on a PDA other than TomTom. Their customer support is absolutely disgraceful; I cannot contact them by email or phone.

You wouldn't happen to have a copy of that wilnrar file from DRIFTER would you. I am having the same problem with my axim 51v. I have posted DRIFTER but haven't heard back--I am guessing he is no longer involved here. You are right about TomTom's costomer support-- that's an oxymoron if I ever heard one.
