How to encode video for X5 2003 WMP 9?

Hello.

Thanks to the nice info here, I was able to get 2003 going on my X5.

Now what I am now trying to do is get some video on it. I am looking to get FLV videos, either from a player application that runs natively on the X5 or by getting them in a format that the WMP likes.

I am not having much luck. Any tips on video, such as what size/codec to use, or a free-ware program?

I have found a couple of freeware programs, but they produce videos that it says it can't play. I have tried 240x180 and several versions of codec, but I am just doing a little too much guessing on these codec settings.

Any help would be great.

I installed a player called SompyPlayer that is giving me somewhat better luck, I think I may be able to get things going... I would still appreciate any ideas.

I use Canopus Procoder 2 to encode movies to Realmedia 10 format (320 x 240) and then play them back via Real One Player (free) from here: http://www.real.com/realmobile/download.html

For those interested, I have this licked. The Sompy Player (for the X5) and Sompy Encoder (for the PC) both free do a great job of taking FLV and making a 320x240 avi that plays fine on the device, with a one click encode.

This is great info for anyone who uses their PDA for viewing flash video.

For those who don't know why you'd reencode, if you encode your flash videos at 320x240, you can reduce their file size and store more videos. On a VGA PPC you'd encode at 640x480, although that exceeds the resolution of many internet-downloaded flash videos.
