X5 back-up battery issues

Hi Aximusers!

I am new here and I've learned a lot reading all the X5 threads - I downloaded the A05 update and learned about tcpmp - but there is one question I still need to ask -

I have an X5 300mhz with an A03 bios - and I leave it plugged in all the time - the few times I took it with me, buy the end of the day, it would say my back-up battery was low. How does that happen? Isn't it supposed to feed off my main battery? I have replaced the back up batter over 6 times now - and it never leaves the cradle. It says it's almost dead again, and it's in the cradle as we speak...
I've lost my data several times already because the battery dies...

I do not have my wifi cf card in it and no other plugs, just the ac adapter.

Hi.

First off , you might wish to upgrade to A04 or even A05. Their are plenty of threads on this site telling you how to do so. A04 is available from Dell.com free of charge.

If the backup battery is being constantly drained, then I would suggest you need a new main battery as this is not keeping the charge and once it gets low, the axim starts to use the backup.

With a good main battery, the backup should need changing no more than once every 12 months.

The back up is not rechargeable, so it does not charge from the main battery, but unless you are constantly using the x5 during the day, the main battery should last more than one day.
