    Movies on my X5

Hi to everyone. I am new to this forum, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of my barely used X5. It comes with all original equipment, as well as a 256mb CF, a TrueMobile 1180 802.11b CF Wi-Fi adapter, a USB cradle, and case. I have been reading several of the posts in preparation for customizing my X5, and am very grateful for the advice being so generously given. Especially from Drifter. He rocks! One thing I haven't seen, though. Does anyone have any suggestions for playing full length movies on the X5? Is it capable? Do you load a movie on a large capacity SD or CF card and play it from there? Also, what about programs on my pc and the X5 to make this possible. Lastly, since my OS is PPC 2002, and I will be upgrading, what 3rd party program is best for landscape screen switching? Thanks for any help!

Hi, Welcome to aximusers.com and also THANKS for the kind comments.

Yes, you can play movies on an x5, did so myself for more months, CF and SD cards are Ok, you should get about 1hour of good quality video on a 256MB card. Just make sure that the CF timing upgrade is installed ( download from dell.com).

The only thing you will see is a slight stutter at sometimes, and don't try to fast forward, the voice and video will loose sync.

The best PDA software to use is TCPMP ( used to be Beta Player) and its FREE !!!. Download this from.

    http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/download

You will need a DVD ripping program on your PC. This is not free, cost is approx $20-25. Try PocketDVD. Download from

    http://www.pqdvd.com/watch_dvd_on_pocket_pc.html

Finally, if you are looking for the landscape utility to watch your ripped DVD's , good news this is built into the free TCPMP program.

Enjoy your X5, its a great PDA.

I just wanted to post my thanks on here to Drifter, as TCPMP is one of the best media players I have ever used! I wish there were a desktop version of it! Also, thanks for the suggestion in regard to PocketDVD! I am currently "backing up" my DVD of the Dukes of Hazzard pilot episode. I have already done the same to my Knight Rider pilot episode. Now that I have my $25 1GB SD card from Buy.com, I am set!
