Problem transfering data between PC and X5

I have a brand new X5 for approx 3 months, for the last month I have been getting the following problems My PC is a AMD 2800, running XP Pro with Service update 2 and Office 2000 Professional.
1) I up dated to ActiveSync 4.0, my PC stopped finding my X5, so I deleted it and put ActiveSync 3.8 back on. But it still would not find my X5, just kept reported ‘it was not connected’.
2) My friend then set up my new Nokia software so my phone can download my photos, etc to my PC via USB. Then my X5 sometimes would connect but kept asking for me to connect to the web via my dial up connection (I do not have broadband).
3) Now we have tried to correct item 2 above by removing my phone and its software. But now my PC comes up with a number of problems when trying to connect my X5, yes it is now trying to talk via ActiveSync 3.8. First it still asks for my dial up connection, second it now asks for my Office 2000 Pro software, which I load, only to be told to close ActiveSync, which I do. Third it tells me it cannot start Microsoft Outlook due to MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or wrong version. If I leave ActiveSync 3.8 connected it still gives me the same problem as 3rd above plus some times it also tells me Microsoft Outlook – ‘either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfil the messaging request’ and/or Microsoft Outlook – ‘synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access info’
4) But guess what ActiveSync 3.8 then does sync with my X5 but at the end Microsoft ActiveSync tells me ‘attention required to 5 of my 7 items (the only items it syncs are Favourites and files).And I still cannot sync my important data like calendar, contacts, etc

Please can someone advise me how to correct these faults, otherwise I can see I will lose all my data on my X5, which is a great machine and has done all I have asked of it.

Or can I transfer data via a SD card (I have a 1GB card) to my PC outlook program?

O Boy, a lot of problems.

Activesync 4 and 4.1 does not work well with Win 2000, best stick with 3.8.

You need to clean up your PC.

A few ways to do this.

1) First remove activesync from your PC unsing uninstall.
2) Download the windows installer cleanup utility and run this http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301
3) For good measure download and run the free registry cleaner - Reg edit.

Once this is completed, your PC should be clean of all references to Activesync 3.8 and 4.0.

Once restarted, uplug the axim and deactivate your firefall and download a fresh copy of Activesync 3.8.

Re install the cradle and axim when asked and you should be adle to connect.

Watch for the COMM port being used as AS3.8 will only work upto COMM13. Most of the COMM ports are hidden and its not unusual to find an x5 trying to use COMM 25

Thanks Drifter for the advise and repling so quickly.

Due to me travelling it will be a week or two before I can try your ideals in fall.

Therefore in the mean time am I right in thinking i can back up my data to my 1 GB SD card - which is the best way of doing this?

Is it possible to transfer this data via USB memory card reader to my desk PC - if yes how do I do that?
