I've posted about this problem before. After obtaining additional data, I am restating my problem for your input.
I am struggling with a problem using Notes in my Pocket PC.
I have an Axim 400/64MB so speed and memory are not a problem.
I transferred my Palm data to Outlook using DataViz Desktop to Go software, then from Outlook to Axim by sync'ing.
I have *** over 800 Notes items *** for a total of less than 2MB of text. I collect all kinds of information such as restaurant listings, book reviews, etc. so these are not always short notes.
In any case, my old Palm III with only 2MB of memory had no problem with these memos(Notes) and search was lightning fast.
On the Axim, with all these Notes, saving a new Notes with a few words takes almost a minute! Resorting the Notes category by date or name, etc. takes eons!!!
If I delete all these old Notes files and create new Notes on the Axim, there's no problem with speed. When I add the old Notes back, at a hundred items or so, the machine starts crawling again. I tried both soft and hard resets several times so resetting is not the solution.
My questions are:
1. For comparison, what are the number of Notes you have on your Pocket PC and do you see similar speed degradation when the number of Notes increases?
2. RommelS suggested that the software from DataViz might have added overhead/bug during the data conversion from Palm to Outlook. Since I haven't had time to re-create enough native-Axim Notes to confirm this promising theory, I'd like to know if anyone else used DataViz or other conversion software and encounter similar problem. If RommelS's theory is true then I will gradually recreate my Notes and know that my effort won't be futile. I hate to spend hours redoing the Notes just to find out that PocketPC can't handle that many entries when I reach a few hundred items.
Thank you for your input. This problem is a big annoyance for me because without Notes, my Axim is practically useless.

Just having spent 10 hours of moving from Palm Os to AximX5... it has been horrible... After a sync. I lose my notes (altough the options are correct)....After a few hours I am able to make a backup but I cannot restore any backups (restore failure !!)...
I have been editing my notes for 6 times now, putting them in the correct cat. and they're gone.
HELP !

Gooseduck, so you're using Notes to actually TAKE NOTES. I see now.
I think there is a difference between Notes for Palm, and Notes for PPC and Outlook.
You see in PPC and Outlook, you have to think of Notes as a Sticky Notes, like the little sticky notes that you put infront of your monitor to remind you of something, or to take quick short notes. (I think this is where the "overhead" is coming from)
I would suggest instead of creating an "actual" note in Notes, create it Pocket Word.
You can also sync Pocket Word with your desktop.
Here is how you do it:
Open ActiveSync > Tools > Options
Put a Check on Files (this will create a shortcut folder on your desktop pointing to the actual folder in your PC. If you use Windows XP, the folder will be in your profile, under My Documents).
Everytime you connect your device, it will sync all the folders in your My Documents in your Pocket PC - where Pocket Word defaults to when saving a document.
Sorry for the confusion, but I hope that this answer your questions.

Ronald,
I saw similar problem when trying to fix my Notes problem: only the 'titles' of the Notes show up, but the contents are gone on the Axim! Luckily, I still see them in Outlook.

The fastest way to transfter your notes is to copy/paste them to MS Word - save it to My Pocket PC Document folder, and sync. ActiveSync will convert the the documents to Pocket Word. Once you see everything in your Pocket PC, you can then delete Notes from MS Outlook.

Thanks for the suggestions... I wil surely give it a try... at this moment I'm kind of fed up "playing" with the Axim.. I think I'll put it aside for a week or so. I will contact the support department of Dell about this.
