Axim X5, TrueMobile 1180, Sonicwall TZ170
Hi,
I recently replaced a Linksys wireless router with a Sonicwall TZ170 wireless router at a friends place of business. He is upgrading his office software due to regulatory requirements and the Sonicwall was specified by the new software vendor. He has an Axim X5 running Pocket PC 2003, with a Dell Truemobile 1180 CF Wi-Fi card, using WEP encryption. Up until the router switch, he had no problems connecting his Axim via the wireless, and even when the Axim went into powersaver mode, hitting the home button brought him back to the web site he was logged in to.
Now, after installing the Sonicwall and setting up MAC filtering and the WEP key to recognize the Axim, several things have happened. First, even after installing the latest Dell supplied Truemobile 1180 driver for the CF card, it will not connect properly to the wireless router. By this I mean that it connects but has no IP address. Now the Sonicwall works fine for every other wireless device in the office, acting as a DHCP server and properly assigning IP and DNS addresses to the wireless devices upon recognition of the MAC addresses. The only way I have been able to get the Axim to connect and be able to get out on the internet is by setting it and the Sonicwall to have a fixed IP address. Problem solved, or so I thought.
Yesterday he called to tell me that now, when he turns it on in the morning, it connects fine, but the first time the Axim goes into powersaver mode it disconnects from the network and the only way to get it to reconnect is via the reset button on the Axim.
I have searched this site for related information and, while there is plenty to ready as far as complaints regarding the Axim X5 and wireless, I haven't seen this particular issue (or found it just yet). I could use some help to figure out why the Truemobile 1180 works fine with a Linksys router, staying connected even while in powersaver mode, but fails to do so with a different router and the latest 1180 driver from Dell.
If you've read this far, THANK YOU. If you can help, BLESS YOU!
Kevin
