There are two image files extracted, I used the P25_NK_H_07170300EN.IMG (copied it to the CF Card)
The "H" file is for the 400Mhz proc, the "L" version is for the 300Mhz one.


Follow these instructions to the letter. I just did this install tonight, worked like a charm.

Holding the four buttons down is the hardest part. I did the following while holding the Ax with the power button up to the left:

Right Thumb to Reset Button
+
Left Thumb to Scroll In Button
+
Right Forefinger to Contacts Button
+
Left Forefinger to Power Button

Hold the above button’s down simultaneously for 2 – 5 seconds, remove your Right thumb from the Reset and Left forefinger from the Power buttons. Continue holding in the Scroll In and Contacts Button’s until you see a white screen with the flashing procedure displaying text, then you can release the last 2 button’s.

I downloaded the file, and transfered the one for the 400mhz x5 to my compact flash and I tried about 30 times... But every time the white screen would load up, wm 2002 should up after. I don't if my x5 is reading the file or what. Can some one help

jdahya - Maybe you should download the file again in case the first one was corrupt or damaged.

The first time I tried flashing, my third finger slipped off the Contacts button when removing the two from the Reset and Power button's. This caused the Ax to present me with a solid blue screen. I turned the unit off then back on and it booted into WM2002.

At this point I shut the Ax off and stepped through the procedure again with a resulting good install of WM2003.

Do exactly this:

1. Insert the Compact Flash Card with the .IMG file into your Ax

2. Remove the Backup Battery and leave it removed, don't insert until you have finished WM2003 installation.

3. Remove the Main Battery and insert it again.

4. Remove and reinsert your Compact Flash Card.

5. Make this combination of Keys: Push Reset + Press Scroll In Button + Contacts Button + Power

6. Remove your fingers from Reset and Power Button's but continue to press the Scroll In Button and Contacts Button for about 20 seconds or until you see the white screen with the text. When you see the text appear, release the last two button's.

It might be worthwhile to enlist a second pair of hands to help with the button's routine.

If this doesn't work for you, I don't have any other solutions.

Does anybody know if this is possible to do from a SD card?

No, it only works from a CF card. But you only need a small 64 MB card for it to work and these can be very cheap to buy second hand.

Obviously if you have a larger card, that will also work

There's one thing I'm unclear about.

Do I have to upgrade my X5 (WM2002) to ROM A03 prior to applying the A05 update (mentioned in this thread and at p2btech.com), or can the A05 update be applied to any WM2002/2003 ROM version?

The instructions don't make this clear. Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.
