For your portrait/landscape issue, this was not an OS option until 2003 SE which is not available for the X5. I know there are 3rd party programs that can do it for 2003, I think Pocket Plus is one of them.

Are those downloads for the L or H version of the ROM? There are different downloads for the 300 and 400 MHz X5s.

Mahstah,
I believe it's the actual ROM exe file that let's you extract either version.
Pedah,
You can temporarily turn your security settings down one notch or so.
I don't know any other way, because I copy and pasted a link I searched from Google here:

Thanks KavexTrax, I'd suggest the second link because the first seems very slow.
I dl'd it and it does contain both the H and L versions of the ROM. Much appreciated!

Let me take a minute to write about my experiences.
The first thing I tried was the SD card flash. Just moments after I tried this it locked up my PDA and I had to do a Hard Reset twice to get it to work agian. So NO you cannot use a SD card!
Second I tried the method in post number 12 by fengkuang. The Hex workshop was easy and everything started to load as normal then it locked up on me. Maybe because of what I had done earlier with the SD card but it did not work for me. My X5 became a brick. Nothing would turn on and it was forever broken or so I thought.
My third experience was the Compact Flash or CF method. I bought a 1 gig for 17 bucks locally and did the four button method found on the first page. The software started to load and on the first try it loaded! I now have the latest version of PPC aka WM2003.
After all this I hope you all can see the best way to upgrade is with the CF. I then went to dells website and downloaded all updates.
This is awesome thank you all for a great site and all the great resources.
Also use the second download on this page because its faster and has BOTH images for the X5. The first link only has one.

I've tried the 4 finger method until my fingers hurt...lol. No luck.
All that happens is the Dell logo comes up, and it beeps and goes to the 2002 screen again. I've held the 2 buttons on that screen for over a minute, and can't seem to get it to go??
Any ideas??
I'd be willing to send my Rom back-up if someone can mod it in Hex Editor, (couldn't figure that out either)...
Thanks

Just spent $2.99 for the update on EBay, and it worked perfect.
I'd recommend it to anyone trying to do this...
