I assume you are using a CF card ?.. The upgrade will not work with a SD card. ??.

What is interesting in the data you have included is
CF: Not In Use
SD: Not In Use

If this is a true printout with the card in place, then either the card or your axim is faulty as a CF card should be detected.

However, if all is correct and the diagnostics cut in, it normally means that you did not do press the 4 buttons correctly. Just trya again until the CF loader works.

I just updated my X5 to 2003 using the following steps:
---------
Files needed: Hex Workshop from www.bpsoft.com
R64365.EXE WM2003 ROM update

NOTE: Best to perform a hard reset on your device and remove any SD/compact flash cards in your device before you start

Extract the R64365.EXE file and run the System Update.exe and choose to back-up your ROM image, it will save a copy of your current ROM as an .ris file.

Choose the correct update ROM image for your Axim, P25_NK-H-07170300EN.IMG for Axim Advance (400MHz) or P25_NK-L-07170300EN.IMG for Axim Basic (300MHz) and rename the file extention to .ris

Load up Hex Workshop and open up your backup ROM image and the update ROM image side-by-side. Copy the hex code from offset 106 to 128 from your BACKUP and paste in into the UPDATE at the same position offsets. This is your Axim serial code and is necessary to fool the backup ROM option of the installer into thinking the update ROM is your backup ROM. Save the modified update ROM image.

Run the System Update.exe again to choose to restore a backup ROM image. Select your patched ROM file (P25_NK-H-07170300EN.ris or P25_NK-L-07170300EN.ris) and let it 'restore' your PPC2002 to WM2003. Enjoy!!

--------

I was a kind of biting my nails throughout the entire process. There is something you will want to do that is a little different than what those directions tell you.

You actually need two copies of that P25_NK-H-07170300EN.IMG file.
You need to keep one as .IMG and make one .RIS.

I just copied the file into a new folder, renamed it to .ris and then copied it back into the same directory as the .img file. The file that I altered with the hex editor was the P25_NK-H-07170300EN.RIS. That is the one I selected for restore as well.
If you don’t have the advanced Axim, you’d obviously be working with the L file, not H file.

That hex editor is easy enough to figure out. Just be really patient with the process. I was successful the first time.

Hope that helps a little.

Man that is awesome! Mine worked the first time too. That hex editor is not the greatest though.

PPC2003 update question

[quote=Drifter]It depends on how you are trying to upgrade and also what software you have.

If you have managed to buy an original Dell upgrade CD, then this is run on your PC via activesync....

I have been reading this thread and never saw details about the upgrade CD.
Do I understand that the upgrade cannot be done with the companion CD that came with the X5? That there was a specific upgrade CD that I would have purchased or this multibutton method?

And regarding restoration of the software I currently have installed. If I do a complete backup, then after upgrading to PPC2003, all I have to do is a restore and everything should be workin as before? I hate the thought of having to go back and try installing alls this stuff again. Not to mention probably needing to ask for the licenses again.
Thanks,
GregR

Hello Greg-

Would you like the good news or bad news first? OK, first the good news. No upgrade CD is needed. If you read the 5th and 7th posts on this thread, they explain exactly how to perform the upgrade. Now the bad news. You can not use a backup from a previous ROM version to restore your software or settings. You will have to reinstall/reregister your software.
