I think I hate this thing

Years ago I got an X5 but never used it because I had a Palm. I decided to break out the X5 and give it a try. I think I hate this thing.

It has A02 on it and I was trying to upgrade to A04. The active synch will not work. When i try to run the setup it tells me make sure I am connected to the PC. Which I am. The X5 tells there are setting issues that must be corrected. Active synch also keeps wanting to set up new partnerships.

How do you upgrade these things? How do you make the active synch work. The Palm was so much easier.

You are definately in the minority if you hate it. I have owned a number of X5's and have 4 in use in the company and every one thinks they are great.

Regarding Activesync. Did you install this before connecting the PDA ??. This is vital.

I would suggest you remove Activesync and do a hard reset on the X5. Download Activesysnc 3.8 off the web and reinstall.

All should then work

OK, got the active synch to work, kind of. How come it will not let me upgrade to the A04. When i try it tells me to connect my device to the pc with a cable before running system update. It is connected, it is just does not notice it is there. Any other suggestions?

The reason I initially got the Axim was becasue i have friends that had them and really like them. I was given a palm for work. When i left, they kept the palm, which is why i broke out the Axim.

Not clear from your answer. Did you re install Activesync and also do a hard reset on the Axim ??? ( not a soft reset using the reset button).

Hard reset is holding power, scroll in , contacts and reset at the same time.

You can also run diagnostics. Hold all of the above buttons and then release power and reset only. Hold the other two for about 15 secs.

I had similar problems recently on an x50v. re install and hard reset cured the problem

A03 and A04 won't install on an X5 standard. Those particular ROM upgrades are for the X5 advanced. You have to go to A05, which brings you to WM2003. There is a "hack" listed elsewhere on this site (illegally) if you want to go that route. So it's up to you...stick with A02, the last valid upgrade for the X5 standard (300 MHz, of course) with WM 2002, or upgrade to WM2003. Your choice.

I have the 400 advanced X5. I did the hard restart and reinstall. I can get regular stuff to synch. It went right past the CF card and started up the pc2002 again. did not recognize the CF. I was using a 512 SanDisk I took out of my camera. Shoud i try to load the A03 first?

You need to format the CF card before loading the upgrade file. Your camera didn't do that. :blush:
