I went to GPSCITY.COM and purchased the cable which has the round 4-pin connector from my gps to the x5. The problem is I've tried multiple different gps software on my x5 and none of them receive data. It searches com1, com2 and com3 with no results even though my gps device is clearly getting a solid signal. Any ideas?

    Hi.

Just some basics first. You need to see if it is the receiver or an incompatability problem

    1) Most GPS receivers have a light on them which show is on or flashing a specific colour when a good signal is received. Check to see what your receiver should do and if it is doing it . You email appears to confirm that it is doing as expected

    2) You mention GPS software. Most receivers have a utility supplied with them that is a basic signal strength program that will detect and confirm a good signal. Normaly this will also give simple position data ie latitude and longitude. Again if you have not done so, you should install this program temporarity on your A5 and test the set up to see if you get a good signal. If it does as expected, the GPS uniyt is OK, if not - faulty

If no signal, then you need to get the hardware tested. Try someone elses A5 with your GPS set up and then eliminate faults by trial and error.

If good signal, then everything is ok with the hardware, you just need to look in the GPS software to find out how to tell it what type of receiver you are using, otherwise it will not work. You may have to try a number of different receivers if the Garmin is not listed.

Perhaps the garmin has a specific driver that you received with it ???

Final thought, you mention the cable, so I assume this is not a CF card unit. Are you supplying 12v or external power to the system ??. GPS receivers with cable, normally need an external power supply, take off from the PDA is not sufficient.

Let me know how you get on
