When my X5 is stored, it is possible for the power on button to get pressed.
Of course when I go to use it, everything is dead, main and backup batteries and programs. I thought I set the power settings correctly. Is there any way to prevent this accidental power drain and program loss??? It sure seems like a poor way to store information if the memory is volatile.
Thanks, Don

You should check the advanced power settings so that on battery, the axim shuts off automatically after say, 5 minutes.
My wife had a similar problem as she was using the original Axim soft leather look carry case, through which it is easy to press the button. We solved the problem by buying her a hard sided case. The one we got was the Case logic Strongman PDA case ref nr PLTE2. Cost about $20 or Euro 18.00 Problem solved and much easier than replacing backup batteries and reloading data.
Other companies offer similar cases, but I like the PLTE2 which allows the Axim to be used whilst still "fixed" in the case.
I've now also switched my case as it protects against drops and knocks much better

Thanks for the reply. I thought I had done that. Since I lost my software and owners info etc, I set the advanced options and tested the Axim several times. It did indeed shut down every time The problem is that the maximum time for battery operation is 15 minutes. So....Why should I have lost everything if 15 minutes is the maximum on time and the backup battery was new???

HMMM, thats strange. My apologies if I now ask some very basic questions.
You can select a setting that does not switch off the power at all when on battery, so 15mins is not the maximum. Their is a check box next to the battery, this needs to be checked if the auto function is to work. Also just checking, you know their is a auto dim function also?. Could it be that the Axim remains on but the display dims ??. Looking at when you joined the forum, I suspect you have these angles covered, but it is worth checking.
The core question is why is both batteries becoming empty ??. Also you have not indicated the length of time that this "fault" takes. Is it weeks ?? of days / hours . If the latter, this would imply that the main battery is not working or becoming empty quickly.
Try fully charging the battery and then switching on the Axim, with all power saving modes , ie auto switch off and auto dim, not checked. leave on for about 2 hours ( or play one of the games) and then check the power meters every 30 mins to see what the charge is like in the main battery. If it is totally empty after 2 hours, then it may be you need to buy a new battery.
How old is your axim ??. Is it still under warantee ??
Could you have a CF of SD card that is draining power ???
Chris

I have exactly the same problem. I just replace my backup battery a month ago, seldom use the device. But now, every few minutes, the warning about backup battery ruunning low.
I am using a Duracell DL2032, if this helps to solve the problem.

Hi.
You may have just answered the question. Even when switched off, the Axim wilol need some power to keep its memory etc. If this is over a long period, the normal battery will discharge and the back up is used. This could explain why the back up is discharged.
Personally when not in use, I keep my PDA in the cradle.
