I have had my Axim since last April, so almost made it a year before I had to replace the main battery. Problem: since I just replaced my battery last night, my axim has now reset itself 4 times whilst in a game when it was off it's cradle. Once it reset itself when I took the axim off the cradle ????

I bought the battery at Wal-mart at the watch counter. Is there something I need to do to set in the system that my battery was replaced? I have had a couple of messages stating that my main battery is low, it should be replaced or memory loss could occur, etc. Is there a specific brand of battery I should have bought? Is there something in the setting I was suppose to do?

I wish I hadn't thrown away the old battery but the new battery is "CR 2032 Lithium Battery", there were some asian markings on it so I assumed it's is an Asian production.

Please help!

You must have replaced the backup battery. (the small watch-type battery that goes under the black cover) The big battery you slide in is the main battery. You cant buy those at wallmart and you probobly just need to charge it. If you do need to replace your main battery, the only ones that will work (or even fit I believe) are the ones from dell.

OOOPS, I have my battery terms mixed up. Ok, you're right, I replaced the backup battery which now I realized I probably didn't have to yet. by the way what is the lifetime on the backup battery?

As for my main battery, I have 2 and they both are from Dell. I have the original which came with my X5 and I bought the extended battery from Dell.

So now that being straightened out and I should add that both of those batteries are fully charged, I keep it in the cradle when It's not travelling with me, what do you suppose the problem is? Why is it resetting itself then?

thanks for your response and straightening me out on what battery is what, but I am still confused to what is going on. I'd appreciate any more help with this.

When you say reset do you mean a full soft reset where the blue dell screen comes up and everything? Otherwise I'd recomend a soft reset but apparently youve done that a few times.

Especially if you are alternating with two batteries for less then a year I don't think your battery's should have died already. Have you tried your other battery? Is the light green on your power button so your sure its recognizing the batteries are fully charged? If yes to both, i guess all you can do is *yikes* hard reset. And if THAT dosn't work youd better send it back to dell.

As for the backup battery its sort of a mystery. There was a long running post on here not long ago about it and I'm not sure anything concrete was discovered.

Yup, I mean a full soft-reset, Dell blue screen and etc.

I guess I hadn't noticed but the light is red/orange on the main power button now that I look at it in my cradle but my battery meter, Ver3.2 by Tom Gigear shows it to be 100%. Could my battery meter reader be faulty and has been giving me false information?

I just noticed the problem today, where it did the soft-reset about 4 times, just a weird coincidence since I had replaced my back-up battery although it's giving me the message about my main battery being low, etc. I will replace my other battery when I get home to see if it shows the same thing. When the other battery is not in my axim, I have it in my cradle charging. Is this a good thing or does it hurt that it's always in my cradle charging?

A while back, I had my extended battery drained all the way, I hadn't used the axim for about a day or 2, which rarely ever happens, I had left town and had forgotten to bring it with on accident, and didn't notice that I had an applicationopen that caused the battery to drain when it was off it's cradle. Anyhow when I had gotten to my axim, it stated that the battery was low so I replaced it with the other battery and had to do a soft-reset. It took a while and many tries to recharge my extended battery. I had read somewhere in this website (Not sure where anymore) that if a battery is drained people have had problems trying to "revive" the battery, is this true? Could that be why I'm having problems with my extended battery? This battery draining thing had happened about a few months ago but I hadn't had a problem till 2 days ago when it said my main battery was low, to either replace it or charge it....etc. That's when i had my terminology mixed up and had the back-up battery replaced. (anyone following all of this?) I hope this isn't too confusing to follow except for I am still not understanding why I have had the mystery soft re-sets? any other ideas? i appreciate all input.

If you haven't tried your other battery, definetly do that first. It shouldn't hurt it to stay in the cradle and I'm pretty sure the full drain thing with the battery is a myth. If your other battery works you probobly just have a dead battery.

If niether works you'll probobly want to back up and do a hard reset (it clears out all your memory) and see if that fixes it in which case the problem is with a piece of software. Have you installed any new programs lately? I once installed a program that messed up my axim so I couldn't turn it on without resetting it so its possible its some new software.

Well, now I am in a middle of trying to do a data backup.....crossing my fingers this puts everything back as I had it.

I had replaced my original battery back and when I did that, everything was wiped, it gave me a message about hitting a button and then everything was back to when I had fist taken the axim out of the box.

When i do a backup, does everything go back to the way I had it? All programs? I had purchased some software like, e-wallet and a couple of other games, do I have to reinstall the software? I don't know if I still have the code when I had purchased them, so I really hope I don't. Also, what about all the information I already had on my e-wallet, will it maintain everything i had in there?

argh!!

E5, to answer your questions, I did recently install a freeware games, so maybe something in there didn't click right so I will delete those games if they are still there when my backup is complete.

Again, I appreciate any help from my above questions.

Uninstall the games you most recently installed. They will still be there after you backup. Re-backup then if everything works otherwise you could restore the faulty programs.

A backup will restore all your programs etc. You'll be fine. You should back up regularly anyway (with activesync or the file restore program on axim) Especially when installing new programs.

Wait, hold on. If everything wiped the way it was originally (like a hard reset). You'll be backing up that. You need to restore what you had before but if you didn't backup...sorry. You may need to reinstall everything. After everything wiped, did you still have the battery problem because that means you have a hardware problem.

I'm not sure how to do it but you probobly have to delete your old partnershiip on your pc and establish a brand new one. Maybe search this site for partnerships or something ive seen it talked about before.

Someone know how to do this?
