microsoft reader activation

I have having a problem activating my microsoft reader. The actual reader on my x5 states that it is activated, but when I go to download an ebook from amazaon, it checks and then tells me that microsoft reader is not activated correctly or not even activated yet. I then go to the microsoft activation site, and click the button. Then my system just sits there. I have left it there for 10 minutes at one point. When I cancel and retry, it tells me that the installer was installed allready should I redo it? I answer yes, but no go!

Please help me. I would really like to read my new book

Are you using the latest version of reader and have you got it activated on your PC as well as your axim?

You should also ensure that reader isn't open when you activate otherwise it may not work properly.

I know what you mean - I just got broad band and had big problems installing the usb modem - just wouldn't set up properly - couple of calls to tech support - only suggest keep trying to uninstall and reinstall drivers or reinstall OS (oh-no!). Several hours later - just about to give up for the night - one last call to tech support - now much quieter and I guess no-one else to talk to - he talked me through a few checks and stuff and then it's sorted - much happier and surfing much quicker!

Of course it's not all their fault but when it comes to finger pointing, it's like my finger is a compass and Redmond is the North Pole!

As a newbie, I find translating the forum comments into English quite the challange. For instance,

And what about,

I then go to the microsoft activation site,

where would this site be? and what do you do there? where did you ever read anything that lead you to that site. My stupid User's Guide has 4 pages on MS Reader but is says NOTHING about how to get it activated.

When I find an ebook on the internet obviously I have to download it to my hard drive, but does ActiveSync automagically send it to my pda? or do I intervene somehow? Do you create special subdirectories on your X5 for your ebooks or do they all go into some pre-defined directory that we have no control over?

Any hints or tips would be appreciated, thanks in advanced,

I got it working! I had to install the newest version on my sd card but I was then able to activate the reader and download my purchased book. I am assuming that the version installed on my x5 that shipped with the cd and wm2003 was an older version. I could not however uninstall it either. So, all being said and done, it is now working.

i think the help ebook that comes with ms reader explains how to activate -- if i remember, it's das.microsoft.com on IE, not mozilla/netscape/opera etc.

I seem to remember that you do need to upgrade but I think the original reader on the ax is in rom and therefore you can't delete it...but good news that your now able to read the book you bought

Regarding Microsoft Reader.....

Thanks for the tips on activation. I believe I've got that down. Does anyone know how to transfer an ebook from a PC to a Pocket PC? I've got some books on the PC that I'd like to move to my Axim x5, but when I try to open the books on the Axim, I get a "Microsoft Reader is no longer able to access the book" message. Any ideas? These are books I've purchased from Amazon.
