I guess this is sort of a common problem, but here goes.

My Axim X5 is not recognized by my Windows XP machine. Not only does itnot sync, it doesn't even know what the heck the device is. And when I point the hardware installer to the driver (wceusbsh.inf) it reports that this driver dies not describe my device!

I am using Activesync 3.7, which I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. The Axim does sync to my machine at work with the sync cable.

Any solutions? Hints? Thanks in advance.

are you installing *just* active sync or did you also install the special dell usb sync driver aswell? the driver should be on the companion cd that came with your axim.

Follow this procedure:

1. Remove the "unsupported device" from the Device Manager.
2. Uninstall ActiveSync from Add/Remove Programs.
3. Disconnect the Axim from the PC.
4. Reboot your PC, and soft reset your Axim.
5. Reinstall ActiveSync and reconnect the Axim when prompted.

Then let us know if it works or not.

I did the reinstall of Activesync 3.7, removed the "unknown device" etc., rebooted the Axim - all many times. None of that worked.

How can I know if the Dell USB driver is installed? I see the wceusbsh.sys, .cab, and .inf files in the usual places. Are these "it?" I don't see anything else on the CD about USB druvers.
