Hey gang - HELP!!

I love the device. It's my first PDA, so I'm still getting used to it. But, it's an ultra-cool toy. Since I do not carry a laptop when I travel, I want to use the Axim to retrieve and send e-mails, and use the internet. Therefore, I also purchased the modem and keyboard.
In my communication settings, since I will be contacting my server through hotel room phone lines, it's set to make contact via 1, area code, then the server's 7 digit number. However, after tapping "start", then "E-mail", then "Services", then "Connect", it attempts to connect, but displays only the server's 7-digit number. What's a bit comical about the deal is that the last digit of the phone number is a 0, so the only thing that happens is that since it's not connecting a long distance number, the "0" keeps ringing the hotel front desk. I've been driving the clerks bats, and didn't even know it until they turned off the phone. Talk about red-faced!
Anyway, can anyone tell me why the device is trying to connect with only the 7-digit phone number, when the settings are equipped with 1, area code, then the 7-digit number? Thanks.

Had the same kinds of problems dialing from hotel to get email. I fixed mine by goint to: Start, Settings, Connections, Connections, Dialing locations, Dialing Patterns. In the 'For local calls,dial' box, (see the usable codes defined in parenthesis in the middle of the screen), I used '9,fg' to get a pause in the dailing pattern to allow time to hook to an outside line and then dial the area code and number of my ISP.
