THIS DEVICE NAME IS ALREADY IN USE

I had to rebuild my desktop. Afterward, when I tried to sync my AXIM it wouldn't do anything but let me browse the AXIM from the desktop.

I restored it from a recent backup (one day ago) and, when done, it told me to reset the AXIM.

Now all I get after the reset is "THIS DEVICE NAME IS ALREADY IN USE. YOU MUST ENTER A DIFFERENT NAME FOR YOUR MOBILE DEVICE." I am afraid to do this thinking that I will loose all the data on the AXIM, and why should I have to rename a device that I just restored with that same name?

When you rebuilt your desktop, did you give it the same computer name as you had before? If not, rename it to the old one.

You can check your Axim for the computer name it is expecting to sync with by removing it from the cradle, and starting ActiveSync.

Go to Tools/Options and check out what PC is included in the synchronizing.

...or you can go do three things

One, you can delete the partnership from ActiveSync and resync your device with the same name.
(File > Delete Partneship)

Two, you can change the name of your device and resync.
(Start > Settings > System > About > Device ID)

Three, the next time you try to make a connection and it prompts you to change the name, just do it. The new name will become the new device name.

Just make sure when synchronization starts, read the prompt that you'll receive. For example, it will ask you if you want to combine your contacts or replace the contacts in your device with the one in pc or vice versa.

You will not loose your data by just changing the name of your device.

Thanks! I did the one you suggested RommelS (no offense Duckman, just seemed to work in my mind first). :P

Now I have another headache. I got home tonight and tried to log in and it is asking for a password to get in and it has reset several times. I can't remember if this is a defulat or a 3rd party app I added, but I have used it since I bought the AXIM.

Anyway, the password (the only one I ever had for it) doesn't work and it won't allow me in and puts a 2 minute hold on it each time.

Any suggestions...hopefully Elyod. :x
