Hi ALL!!!
I will be getting my Axim advanced today! Rejoice!!!!
hmrph... Ok but i need help getting started with these questions which i appreciate ur valuable feedback and advice:
1. I got this axim at the PCShow 2003 here in Singapore over the weekend and the brochure was saying the processor is a PXA255 400mhz one. from what i know it has always been a PXA250 processor. Is there a way to check if it is true? seems that it is not shown in the sys info.
2. I heard lots of people complaining about Activesync and it scared me to death! I hope to start right so are there tips on getting started? I have downloaded version 3.7 and also the latest A03 rom update. what should i do next?
I hope the replies to this thread can help many of the newbies there as well! So all Axim veterans pls contribute!!!
Many Thanks!!! :P

Congrats on your Axim purchase!
To answer number 2 - You have to install the ActiveSync that came with your Axim....version 3.5 first. Then you need to sync with it so that your system recognizes your Axim. Then you can upgrade to 3.7. There is a driver that you need that you will not get from the 3.7 download.
To answer number 1 - On your Axim, open up File Explorer. Drill back to My Device. There is a folder "My Documents" tap that. Next tap on the folder "SysInfo". In this folder is a SysInfo text document. On the second line, you will see what type of processor you have. Mine reads:
CPU: Intel PXA250 400 MHz B2
Hope that helps! Enjoy the Axim!

Just remember to do the A03 upgrade before you load your third party software. This will save you time as you won't have to resore a backup.

A03 is the latest ROM version from Dell. Just like a computer needs BIOS upgrades, your PPC will need ROM upgrades from time to time. They take care of bugs in the Dell unit.

I just received my Axim 2 days ago and am still learning how to use it. When I started setting it up I did not use the install CD at all. I already had Outlook 2000 and downloaded ActiveSync 3.7.
Yesterday I tried 3 tims to upgrade to A03 (my brand new toy came out of date with A02) and it kept failing to copy all the files and stopped at about 5% each time. ActiveSync would stall then lose the connection to my Axim.
I am now reading the post by the moderator "You have to install the ActiveSync that came with your Axim....version 3.5 first. Then you need to sync with it so that your system recognizes your Axim. Then you can upgrade to 3.7. There is a driver that you need that you will not get from the 3.7 download." I am wondering what I should do and if this this has anything to do with my up date problem. ActiveSync seems to work OK except when having to transfer large files like the 3 times I had to restore after the failed updates.
Has anyone else had the same update problem and if so is there a common fix or suggestions? I do not want to try another update to A03 with it being so unstable.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you could provide

gcoliver,
there is no need to install the activesyn 3.5 from the cd...
i downloaded and installed 3.7 straightaway and also did the A03 ROM update and everything runs fine...
why dun u backup your contacts and more important stuff into the backup storage ROM first and do a hard reset and try again?
could be your PC's usb connection problem...
try to transfer a large file over to ur device and see whether it goes thru..
hope this helps!!! Long Live the AXIM!!!

Riosuke:
Did you install the USB driver separately then? It has been my understanding that you need to install from the CD first in order to get the USB driver properly installed so that your PC will recognize the Axim.....

Here it is. We posted a download link a while back.
If yours is working now, I wouldn't install it. You may see unintended results...... <_<
