I tried activesyncing my X5 to win2k. It says that the USB is available and when I connect the cradle to the usb port, "Found new hardware" comes up and it says "Dell Axim" but Activesync says it can't find the device. When I reboot, the Dell Axim is not working properly according to the device manager. It can see the Axim, but there appears to be some conflict, even though I have nothing else connected. I downloaded the latest driver, but still no luck. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Help?!

From what you've said, it appears that the wrong USB driver was installed.
See if this helps
[*] Remove the device from the cradle[*] Uninstall ActiveSync[*] Reboot the system after the uninstallation[*] Connect the device after the reboot - it should see a new USB device[*] Insert the CD when asked by the wizard, or point it to the driver that Duckman suggested (make sure the files are ready or unzipped)[*] When completed, re-install ActiveSync 3.7[*] Try making a partnership

What driver did Duckman suggest? I downloaded the latest version from Dell.

Okay, so I did as you said and rebooted after uninstalling both the hardware and software. I came back into win2k, popped my Axim into my cradle, and Found New Hardware came up. This time, it wasn't sure what kind of USB device it was and called it "Unknown Device". It told me that it could not install it because it didn't have the correct drivers. It was sticking it under USB Serial Controllers in the Device manager, which I believe is wrong. I right clicked on the conflicted device, and chose "Properties" -> "Install/Update Driver", which then asked me where the drivers were. I pointed them at the Dell/R55367 directory which contained a driver called wceusbsh.inf and was version 1.0.2.1 according to the version.txt. I chose that directory, and win2k kept suggesting that the usb.inf was the better driver. I renamed the usb.inf to usb.foo and then explicitly chose the dell driver. It then told me that the driver was not appropriate for the device and that it couldn't install it. I suspect this is because win2k thinks the usb is some usb hub device or something. Any ideas?

Delete the questionable driver from the device manager and reboot, then follow the procedure once again.

Okay, so rebooting did it and it identified it as a Dell Axim. Good. But then I tried reinstalling Activesync 3.7, and it says "Your device was not detected." It says USB is available but it can't see my Axim. Ideas?

BTW... after I rebooted, the Dell did come up in the "My Computer" as Mobile Device but it is still not finding it when running activesync.

Try doing a SOFT RESET on your Dell Axim - try again.

So I reset it, and plugged it back in. It brought up a "Connect To" window on the Axim. At that point, I fired up ActiveSync, and tried connecting. It then signaled the audio as if it was connected but the Axim did not, and when it was done, it said "Not Connected". I then reset the Axim again, and when I put it on the cradle, it brought up the same "Connect to" window on the axim. I then tried again to connect through activesync and this time it immediately said it couldn't find any connections. The axim hung on the "Connect To" window for a minute or so, which was much longer than the previous time, and then that window closed.
