Sandisk cards (and others made at the same factory) made before 2002/11 work fine - cards made after don't. Pre 2002/11 have a 9999nn part number (9999 = yymm, nn = tech.code). Post 2002/11 have a nn9999nn (first nn is factory code).
So in theory Sandisk should know what the problem is. They used to make cards that worked...
Lexar just brought in cards from anyone who would sell them to them... Some work, some don't.
Most of the newer non-working cards don't work with the PXA255 processor as the 255 CPU is faster causing buffer overruns in the SD card. Older SD cards (and SimpleTech / Japanese cards) correctly tell the CPU to trottle back transmitting data to the SD card, stopping the overflow error and hence work correctly.
:P Don't you love UserPower? :P It took me six weeks to get this info.
The "dot" directory problem *ONLY* occurs on the Axim as other PDAs will ask to re-format the SD card on insertion - due to FAT corruption. Of course the Axim will want to reformat the card once in a while.

I've got a paranoia that I am half wanting to test regarding Scamdisk/Sandisk but wanted to see if it is even worth the time. I have noted on a previous thread that I too had all my files on the SD card (256) wipe out and had to reformat.
I haven't "popped" out my card since having to reformat but what I"m wondering is if these problems people are having on their cards, also periodically ejects their card? So if I popped out my card now and insert it back in, will all the files be ok? I have no other reason to take out my card other than to see if my card will be corrupted again?
I was using the card for a few weeks until I had deleted some mpeg files via ActiveSync explore and that was my first and only failure on the card so far. To date I had added everything back on it that was there plus some more files.
any feedbacks from others who ejects their cards periodically for whatever reasons and having card problems afterwards?

The reformat message:
Normally only occurs when the FAT gets corrupted ("dot" directories appear on the top level directory)...
My tests that caused this error involved copying 1600 9k jpeg files in 16 sub-folders from/to the SD card.

I too have exactly the same problem with corrupt data etc, but now I can't format my Sandisk 256MB SD card at all! I've tried to format it using my JVC camcorder to no avail. Can anyone help?

rcrome,
Have you tried formatting it in the Axim? What I did when my data disappeared, I popped the card out and popped it back in then I got a prompt asking if I wanted to have it formatted at which point I chose yes. Hope that works.

Thanks for the response Kim, yes I had formatted the card on my Axim numerous times, but after the last time the data got corrupted I couldn't format, the PDA coming up with the message "An error occurred while formatting the SD card folder (error code 0)." Any ideas?
