pedah to the rescue - HELP!

hey pedah! im back! got my X5, getting the feel for the uses of the pda. great news, came with A05 update rom already installed! however it does bring up a few questions which i figured id shoot in your direxion, see if you can help. first question; does the A05 rom update automatically bring the pda up to WM2003? i cant find the info in the pda anywhere except for what rom it has, it is definitely A05. next question; ive been looking for free apps and games, found a few spots where i can get things, however i cant get them to load. i have an sd memory stick and ive put idk, three or four games plus a battery monitor app. now they all claimed to be WM2002-WM2003 compatible from the sites, which from what ive seen they are trustworthy as far as what is actually compatible with what. okay so i put the files onto the memory card and then put the card into the pda, open up explorer and click them from the sd card location. BUT, it comes back and warns me that the files are either not a valid pocket pc application or that the file is not a valid microsoft CE installer... PLEASE HELP! haha im dead in the water. now i did find one battery monitor app that did load. caused alot of problems that went away with a hard reset. always trying to find more.

    THANKS!!

AO5 is the last ROM update for the x5 and yes it's WM2003. As for programs, when you down load a file to your PC, you need to check the extension of the file. If the extension is .exe, it is usually installed to the axim from the PC via activesync. If a file has the extension .cab, it is a cabinet file, that need to be transferred to the axim and installed from there. It is as simple as navigating to the file with the file explorer on the axim and tapping on it to start the install process!

Have you got the axim syncing with a PC Yet?

Also there's a list of useful sites I did a couple of years ago, that might help you find freeware and stuff

Don, installing from an .exe is quite simple. It's like installing on the PC, have the axim connected and synced, then double click the file and it will run, then you should get a notification in device center to check your axim to install to device, you should even have a choice to install the program to a storage card if so desired, on the axim.

tip of the cap to you

many many thanks! haha dont know if i can say this in here but ive ditched the older x5 for a handmedown ipaq h5550. complete with internal wifi bluetooth and sdio so no more worries of cf adapters and program compatibility, yadayadayada.... so ive figured out the whole file loading process. totally simple. thanks to the infinite wisdom of yourself i have successfully added a smart closer task manager, date in taskbar with time, and a shortcut application. all of which are operating beautifully. knock on wood! hahaha okay so in my further quest of pda knowledge id like to ask about themes. i know they are .tsk extension files. BUT... where do i put them??

    thanks again!!

The Ipaq 5550 is quite old, but you will find a lot of good info here.

The .tsk file can be placed any where on the device, the today theme part of system will detect .tsk files wherever you put them, and show them in the list So what OS version are you running now?
