I had installed a backgammon game by Anyware and I can't uninstall it. I went to remove programs and it gives me the following message>>
"Uninstall unsuccessful. The program was not removed because these files are in use or are read-only. Tap Start......." I followed the instructions to see if it was running and it isn't, I tried going on my active syn on my pc to try to remove the program that way and it says that access is denied. Is there any other way to remove this game?
Please help again! :w00t:

Did you make sure you shut down all your open applications on the Axim?

Yep, I turned off all applications, even ActiveSync. still get the same message.
I even went through explorer and tried removing the folder manually and it gives me a message of being unable to delete.
anything else? thanks for your responses.

I can't understand what would be "locking" the file. Did you contact the company who makes the game to see if they can help you?

I even tried removing programs from the activesyc menu box on my pc and it goes through the motion and removed it from my pc but it didn't from the axim. grrrrrrrrrrr
I haven't tried contacting the company because I'm not sure how to get a hold of their tech support.
here's the link where I got the game from:
http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/hpcpr...ro.html#details
I guess I'll do some more search on how to get a hold of their website, if they even have one. Let me know if anyone is aware of their website or how I can delete this program.
thanks again for the help.

I have found that if a program will not completely uninstall because file abc.blah is still in use. I reset the Axim then go to that file and rename it. I then uninstall the normal way and the app will usually complete the uninstall I then go in and delete the renamed file.

Thanks!!! I did a soft reset and went in to make sure no apps were running and for kicks and giggles I thought I could try at least once more to remove the "normal' way and VOILA, it worked this time. I swear these machines have a mind of it's own sometimes!
thanks for the advices, I was going to go in and rename and trying it that way, but no need now! it's gone forever, yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Soft reset.....try that first. Then attempt to uninstall the application. Many apps have dll's that just hang out there even though when you look at memory for open apps, it appears that there are none.
If you want, try this software out. It is $2.95 from Handango and will remove programs for you.
If the Soft Reset does not work, the $2.95 may be worth the try...... :cat:
