Slow starter
My Axim X-30 seems to take around 10 seconds to "warm-up" every time I turn it on. Only after this period of time, can I assess all of my information quickly.
Is there any way to avoid this delay? It is irritating if I want to quickly look up
an appointment or some information in a note. It looks like I am running an old ROM (A02). Is this the problem?

Is this tthe time it takes to boot from a full power off state or from suspended state?

I'm talking about when I hit the power button and the Axim turns on...I'm not sure what you mean by a suspended state.
As long as we're talking about this, I just notice that, when you're looking at the calender or list of notes, the Axim has some strange blue light blue lines running across the screen. These lines are more prominent on the right-hand side of the screen than they are on the left. There are no lines at all on the home page or in a word or excel document. Very odd.

You should be able to set the device to go to standby, which does not actually turn the Ax off fully, but takes it to a suspended state, which makes the power up process a lot faster, also depending on what programs/software you have on the today screen /start up menu this can also affect your boot time from a comp;etely turned off state to on!
As for your screen distortion/graphics problem, can you attach a screen shot?

I can't see a way to have the Axim go on standby, but I see that you can select an option to "turn on the device from suspend mode" when a program button is pressed (one of the buttons on the bottom). This does help some with the start up speed and you can go directly to the program you want (notes vs. calendar vs. contacts...). So thanks for that. As for the screen, I'm not sure how I would get you a screen shot...do you mean to take a picture of the Axim screen? This does not come out. The blue lines are regularly spaced and are probably part of the design. The only weird thing is that the lines fade out on the left side of the screen.

Ok that looks like right, for early Windows Mobile, just the background, if you have a full screen of tasks or such it will not be so bothersome!

Thanks, good to know about the screen. Now, is there anyway to speed up the Axim? Even if I start it in suspend mode, it sometimes takes 10 seconds to start functioning, especially if I'm trying to view my notes. I would think it would operate faster, especially since it is the 624 MHz version of the X30

I suppose you have to look at what programs you have running, if you have not manually exited all programs before going to suspend, they are still running in the background, remember when you close a program in WinMo, it only minimises but is still running. There are a lot of third party applications that act like a task manager and give you a real close button for apps on Windows, SPB Pocket Plus for one, but there are free ones as well!
What apps are you running?
Even though the Ax has 624 Mhz for a processor, it has very little ram, the balance is quite subtle!
