what does the backup battery back up

Recently bought a very nice used axim x3. As seems to be a common problem, the backup battery is shot. I wanted to know exactly what this battery backs up? The unit works great except for the brief message when I turn it on that the battery is no good. I don't plan on using the device for long periods of time away from the charger or let the regular battery to go down to 0%. If, for instance, I took out the regular battery, without being hooked up to the power cord, what would I lose on the device? Is it just system stuff like time, date, etc. or would I lose installed programs with data, etc...thanx

If you lose power, the device will hard reset, the equivalent of resetting to factory settings! Get a new backup battery, they are not expensive!

In my x30, where is the backup battery located?

On my X5 there is a slot for a CR2032 but on the X30 where is it?

    Thanks

It's located internally, you have to crack the case. There's a whole heap of pulldown instructions at this site.

    Here

I don't like that, I seem to destroy things if I take them apart as I never have the correct screwdrivers etc.

Thanks for the like. Will give it a read.

Not a hard job, just a lot of tiny little screws....I did mine when I had the same unit. Once you are in it is really a simple job. Many pictures online to look at. Just google it if you can't find it on here.....

Here's a link to PDAsmart.com, the cost of the battery is twenty dollars. They do repairs as well. PPC Techs also sell a toolkit, with what you need to pull it down
