Wireless Internet Access

I remember struggling somewhat to get my Axim X30 connected to the internet via my Linksys router. That's been working fine for more than a year now. I've been able to connect to other networks as well. But right now, I'm sitting within reach of a DLink 615 at a friend's house and can't reach the internet. I'm showing a excellent connection when I look at Dell WLAN Utility - but it doesn't matter. There are no radiation symbols on my antenna icon, and no internet connection.

I've tried what for me are the usual things - deleted the wireless ap name and started over and that sort of thing. This one just seems stubborn. Help me think of things to try.

When I check in the advanced settings section in the Dell Utility, it's showing the IP address information for my Linksys back home - not the DLink here. I tried to repair, but it told me it's unable to do that - it's not reallyl giving me any hints - just telling me that the repair failed.

You weren't getting a signal for one of a few reasons.

a) encryption was enabled
b) broadcast in g only mode
c) incorrect preamble or authentication mode
d) MAC address filtering enabled

All of those are options you can check in the router's settings and compare to the Axim's settings.

The connection is fine. I'm just not reaching the internet. I can see that there is a good connection on both the X30 and the router utility. I even got the circles and arrows around the antenna icon on the X30 (finally) by exiting Odyssy and coming back in.

I can also see in the router utility that my X30 has an IP address of all zeros. Still can't get to the internet.

I don't know how to do anything about the IP address. I know there's a way to check it on the X30, but I don't even remember how that's done.

I'm using DHCP. The IP address should be assigned automatically. How do I check the X30 to assure that it's ready for that?

Now I remember. The problem is that the old Axim X30 uses 801.11b ... which means it can only handle smaller shared keys than the other (801.11g) devices. The shared key was too long for the X30.
