Email problem with X30
Help!
I finally have managed to connect to the internet using WiFi and can reach my yahoo.com web site--but I can only READ mail and folders. The radio buttons for moving files or erasing, or sending a message--which all work on my regular wireless laptop--will not work on the Axim X30. Nothing happens when I touch these buttons. Similarly, when I log on to my own website to read WebMail on the X30, I can enter the ID and password, but when I hit "enter" with the stylus nothing happens. Nada. Zip. So my mail never opens.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

Welcome to the site!
The sites that you're visiting may not be completely compatible with the PIE version you're using. Are you using the latest ROM verion for your X30?
I would try using a third party browser like Opera Mini, MiniMo, or NetFront. MiniMo is the only free one, but the other two are a little nicer IMO.

email problem with x30
Thanks for the tips. I haven't updated anything on the X30 since I purchased it in 2004. I put it away because I could not get it to work with email and that was the primary reason I purchased it. I'm no tech guru so wouldn't know where to start. Can I download new ROM from the Dell website? I'm just surprised that Internet Explorer would not work with something as simple as webmail which a lot of sites offer and which I (theoretically) could access from anywhere while traveling.
Thanks. I'll keep working on it. I like the x30 too much to give up on it and it's way more easy to carry in my briefcase than a laptop!!

You can get the newest ROM from Dell's support site. Put your service tag # (visible under the battery) into the field there and it will direct you to the ROM download area for your model.
Note that upgrading the ROM deletes all user data and requires the programs to be reinstalled. Back up your user data, the programs can be reinstalled en masse using ActiveSync.
Also note that upgrading the ROM doesn't guarantee browser compatibility with all sites. WM2003's PIE is quite old now, and even WM5's PIE is not the best browser for compatibility. A third party browser might be your best bet.

Thanks, everyone. I'll pursue a few of these avenues and hope I can get my x30 up and running on the Internet web mail sites I have...
