Copying files to a PC

Instead of using the sync feature, how do I copy files. In particular my contact list from my X3 (not the Outlook list) to a PC?

If you are trying to copy files, you can use IR or an SD card to move them to a computer. If you want to sync your Outlook contacts the best way is to use ActiveSync.

Why would you not want to use Activesync ?. Is their another problem or a specific reason . I would be interested to know. ?
