X30 with a lobotomy

Makin' me crazy.

It works until I screw everything down tight again. After that, it doesn't work. Looks like I haven't quite got the solution. But apparently, I'm pretty darn close.

Now it's got me wondering about that cable between the LCD and mother board. Perhaps when it's not screwed down tight, the cable isn't squeezed together and there's no short.

I'm good. Sometimes you benefit from very basic thinking. If tightening the screws causes it not to work, then loosening the screws ....

Let me give you a hint.

I think men especially want robustness and absolute stability. It was natural for me to put my back into it a little when I tightened the screws .... taking it as far as I could but where nothing broke. I was contemplating that and thinking about the possibility of shimming around where the screws are and it hit me .... maybe I tightened it enough to cause deformation and ...

Anyway ... the screws are tight enough now but not too tight. I have a definition for "too tight." That's when the unit stops working.

Going through some of the functions, I get the impression that everything works. But I probably should reinstall the software. Back when ... pages ago ... when I did the software installations via ActiveSync; I got the instruction that I should complete steps on the X30 if required. I'm sure I heard at least one beep on the X30. But back then it was stuck on the set-up screen and I had no way to respond. So just to be safe ....

Hey Roger, I think you have answered your own question, and maybe it's mechanical. Try the tape fix on the ribbon conector, and when you put it back together, screw together as softly, and as evenly as you can.

I tried everything else and can't get it to work. I also got past the align screen using MSP Remote Alignment (for blind people) but no luck after that - dead touch screen (though I can still wake by touching).
I don't see any white wires on mine though...

I opened up the back and noticed two white wires. They aren't in the tear-down pictures but are on the right side of the last picture on the first page of the pdf tear-down manual that I posted.

Holy crap, I just turned on the PDA after letting it sit for a week and the thing works!
It did not last time I touched it. Now it does. What the???

I can't believe it. It still works even after I gingerly replaced the back screws

I'm not absolutely sure in the end that the wires had anything to do with it. It only worked before I screwed the screws down after I moved them, so I THOUGHT that was it.

If you ever need it, I'll do more to explain that part. But in the end, it was clear that NOT tightening the screws down so hard was the thing that FINALLY made it work.

At this point, I've made Bluetooth and WiFi connections and I'm cruisin'. I even figured out how ActiveSync screwed me up and took care of that.
