FYI: I downloaded a tear-down manual from:
http://pdasmart.zftp.com/instruction...eplacement.pdf
I'm not suggesting that I'm going to dismantle this thing. I just thought I'd look through it. If you have any reason to mention something in the hardware, I perhaps now have a document that would at least show a picture of it.
EDIT: Well, I've looked at it. I was fooled by the large size of the file when I downloaded ... result of high resolution images in pdf. It just shows how to take the thing apart. Not much in the way of insight into the functioning of the hardware.

Thanks for the tip. I was wondering how sensitive the function is. I'm still waiting for a package of 3 styli from Dell. At present, I'm using a ball point pen and wondering if it makes a difference. I've occassionally used my finger too ... being very careful to keep my hands washed. (It's a habit since I'm also still using the touch pad on my Notebook.)
The problem is that I get no response from tapping. I've done a hard reset, the occassional soft reset, tried different tapping techniques, and patiently waited just to see if it would react very, very slowly.

Get something fine and not too hard or you may damage the screen, and try the align screen again, take your time it is not a PC and it takes a lot more time to process things, and at hard reset you are at default, all power save on, that little cross doesn't afford you much space for error so try a toothpick, or something, something finer than a stylus and take your time and be as exact as you can be.

I ran across remote control software earlier and discarded the idea, thinking that the PC would only see the same thing that the X30 does ... an unresponsive screen. But the post you refer to has a point. It would involve a different physical control.

Gees Louise, get the thing to start before you try to install apps on it!

Worth a try. I just touched it carefully with a toothpick. Looked like I hit the exact center. Now I've set it aside to give it all the time it wants to respond. Oddly enough, it did jump from center position to a corner just after I turned it on. I hadn't touched it yet. It's done that before -- seems like a random event.

UPDATE: While sitting there, the screen shut down. It appears to be off now. I had to press the power button to turn it on again ... cross-hairs back in center position. Still unresponsive.
