Upgrade X30 to wireless

Howdy. I'm inheriting an Axim X30 from my wife. When she bought it, she went the cheap route and skipped getting the wifi/bluetooth option.
Since it looks as if I have to open the X30 up to replace the backup battery anyway, is there a way to add the wifi component? Is the physical connection there on the PDA board? Or did Dell use a different board for the two models?

Unfortunately, they did use different motherboards and it is not just a case of plugging in an extra module.

Your only choices for upgrading are.

1) sell the x30 and use the money to fund a new one with WiFi
2) Search ebay and similar for an x30 wifi motherboard ( usually this means the screen was broken.... none available on ebay at present from what I can see
3)Buy a SD WiFi card off ebay - price approx $45-60.

There are SD WiFi cards? I did not know that! That would be good enough for me!
Are there any prefered make/model?

Yup, plenty available and they should all be Ok with the x30 as it has an SDIO SD slot. Just search Ebay and if necessary ask the seller to confirm compatibility, although you should not have a problem if it is supplied with a PPC2003SE driver ( or one is available on the net)

In a few days time I may be able to offer an alternative low cost replacement option, I'm just waiting for parts to arrive

Yes, I'd read that thread already as I was searching for how to replace that.
Dell was wanting to sell me a new PDA
I like the fact that I can buy a plug-in solution, but the price is a bit pricey for an old outdated PDA. Combine that $40 with the $50 I just spent on the wireless card... well, that would be a good part of a new PDA that just does what I want. Thus, the soldering method seems to be beckoning. Been a long time since I soldered something. Not sure if my hands can be that steady anymore.
However, it sounds like maybe you are wanting to set up shop and premake these plug-in batteries yourself. If that is the case, I will be your first customer!

I'll contact you as soon as I have the units ready, price will be for an original replacement battery, ready to fit and much cheaper.

Having replaced 2 batteries myself recently, I can see the problems and how to make it easy and at reasonable cost.

I'll PM you when I have everything in place.. I'm just waiting for the actual batteries to be delivered... expect a PM within 7 days
