X3i SD card problems

Hi,

I just purchased a X3i off ebay to replace one I lost. The lost X3i handled SD cards just fine. The "new" one only recognizes the SD card when sitting in the cradle but never on battery, no matter what the power save settings. I have tried a variety of SD cards of different manufacture and different sizes with the same result and I have gotten all available upgrades from the Dell site including the A02 ROM upgrade. I have seen this same problem discussed on this site over a year ago and was just wondering if anyone had any new information (or do I just junk it and get another PDA).
