Problems with letter transcriber function?

When I first received my Axim x3, the letter transcriber function seemed to work fine. Since then, my husband has had to go in and replace the back-up battery. Everything else seems to be working but when I write on the screen, it doesn't transcribe my writing accurately at ALL. I have re-alligned the screen but that didn't help. Any other suggestions?
