No. IE 5.0 is a PC windows based program that will not transfer to a PDA.

You have to use the IE program hard coded into the ROM of the axim, you should however make sure you have the newest version of the ROM installed by looking at Dell.com. as this will include the most upto date version.

If you really hate the IE installed on your PDA, it is possible to install 3rd party internet explorers, but the one supplied with your PDA will always be resident ( ie you cannot delete or remove it) as it is part of the OS

Re: Internet 5.0 or greater??

Thanks very much for your reply: I have a few questions:

How do I use the IE program hard coded into the ROM of the axim?

Forgive me...but what is ROM?

Where can i search for installing 3rd party internet explorers?

Thanks so much!!!

ROM = Read only memory. It is a fixed memory in the PDA that you cannot delete, add to or change unless you use a specific program supplied by Dell to upgrade it

To use the IE on yur PDA, just tap on Internet Explorer on the start menu of your PDA and then typw in the www address you want as with any PC etc.

However I suspect that from your questions, you have not yet made an internet connection with your PDA. Obviously for any IE program to work, you need to connect your PDA to the internet , either via WiFi, Direct connection via a cable to your PC or via some other means.

There is no way to download ie5 ot greater on your ppc, but their is a registry trick to make your ie identify itself as ie5.5
To do this you have to have a registry editor on your pocket pc. If you dont have one go here

This is what you have to do:
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\
Change the default value from "Mozilla/2.0" to "Mozilla/4.0".
Change the "Version" value from "MSIE 3.02" to "MSIE 5.5".
Change the "Platform" value from "Windows CE" to "Windows NT 5.0".
Some web sites may even just compare the user agent string, so if this is not enough, browse to the Post Platform\ sub key and delete the "240x320" value (it have no data).
This registry hack will make Pocket Internet Explorer identifies itself as Internet Explorer 5.5 running on Windows 2000, this may let you connect to web site that check the browser version, but it will also prevent web sites that provide Pocket PC specific content to be able to know you're actually using a Pocket PC.
