Backup memory and system update help

Thanks in advance for any help. I am a new user of my Axim 3i and I have a couple of pretty basic questions.

1- My Memory indicates that I have 63.29 MB allocated between storage and programs. However, there appears to be "Built-in storage of 34.81 MB. This seems to be in excess of teh main memory. I have not used this space and I wonder what's the difference and what should this space be used for (maps, music, etc)?

2- I read where there is a system update on the Dell site that can be downloaded as a fix for some potential problems with SD cards and program usage. My ROM version in the system information says A00909100300EN). Should this be upgraded and if I do so will I need to reinstal all my programs, maps and music?

To answer number one, your built in memory is just like a storage card, it wont be deleted during a hard reset and is great for music etc.

I dont have an x3 so I am not sure on #2

I think the 64 memory is made up of 32 Main memory and 32 Built-in memory.

Nope, your 64 mb main memory is divided for program memory (basically RAM determining how many programs you can have open etc.) and storage memory. I keep minimal files in my storage memory so I can adjust the slider bar to get the most program memory (my x5 basic has only 32 mb). The built in storage is just that, a built in storage card just like an sd or a cf card would be. Look in file explorer, your sd, cf and built in will all appear as extra drives.
