I am a new Axim X3i owner and I think I am having problems with my WiFi web browsing. My question is, how fast should internet browsing be with a strong WiFi connection through my residential cable modem and Netgear MR814 Access Point / Router?
My desktop computer is hooked up via Ethernet cable to the router and is as fast as lightning, but my Axim seems to be slow as Christmas. I can actually take up to 2 minutes to find and load a web page when I click on one in my Favorites folder. This seems ridiculous for any computer, big or small, that has an 11 Mbps connection and a 400 MHz processor.
Are there any settings I need to change on my Axim or on my Netgear Access Point / Router?
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

Is there any increase in the speed if you are really close to the router?
The router should be placed:
· In an elevated location such as a high shelf where the wirelessly connected PCs have line-of-sight access (even if through walls).
· Away from sources of interference, such as PCs, microwaves, and 2.4 GHz cordless phones.
· Away from large metal surfaces.

nope. sitting 2 ft or 20 ft away from it has no effect on it's speed. It's just slow, slow, slow.
How fast should it be?

jakirkla-
Try this. Turn your wireless on, on your axim. Then tap on the signal strength icon once at the bottom of the screen. From there tap on Advanced. You will then see the Power Save Mode, you will want to change that to never. Try this, it should increase your speed etc. Hope it helps.

Does it matter which channel I have the access point set up for?
How do you determine the optimum channel to use?
Does this have anything to do with speed if the connection strength remains strong on every channel?

Hi,
What I would suggest you in the first place is to figure out who and how many people are using wifi in your area. Do you live right in the downtown area with a lot of interferences? Get a free wifi sniffer and check out who is using what channel. I believe that 11 channels are available in the U.S. At certain times of the day the "air" might be saturated with airwaves! Once you get that figured out, find a channel with less traffic and use it. Also, WEP might be slowing down the connection a bit. If you don't get better results after that, and what have been said before in the forum, the built-in wifi card might be the problem. Ciao.

I set the power save mode to DISABLED and it is working properly now. Thanks for the tip.
I think I am really going to love my Axim now.

I'm having the same problem too... flaky Web use with my Axim. I'll try that power setting thing; hopefully, it'll work for me too.
