Tom Tom 6 on x50v
Does anyone know why Tom Tom are being so evasive on older PDA's and dropping so many from the list of compatible devices, even powerful
models like the x50v which is broadly the same as the x51v which is on the list.
All I can see they are doing is annoying people and losing upgrade revenue, as I would not shell money out for a TT5 maps update after they appear to have dropped my device for future development - an x50v. I bought it over an iPaq 4150, more bangs for the same bucks, but the 4150 remains on the list.....
Surely they have a large QA lab full of PDA's......
Tom Tom's customer service/loyalty is bemusing..........

TomTom did exactly the same with version 5.0.
The problem is that when they launch, their are so many PDA's out there , it is impossible for them to test them all, so they start with the newest.
With v5, at Launch, they did not list the X50 as compatible ( but did list the X50v)
In their defence, they are being a true Dutch company and being over precise. To be fully compatible, the PDA must have bluetooth, although it will work with other combinations.
From past experience a listing of compatible devises on the TomTom web site, just means that they have tested the software with that PDA and can thus support it.
I have posted a list of compatible Dell PDA's all tested and confirmed to work with TomTom 6 and ALL Dell PDA's will work with TomTom 6 including the humble x5-300mHz
The only small problem is the loading of TomTom 6 onto an x5, but I can assist legal owners to achieve this.
I personally use a Dell axim x50 - 416mHz every single day in my car and interchange this with an x50v when travelling. Both work without ANY problems.
P.S I do not work for TomTom or have any connection with them, I am just an enthusiastic user who has a few Dell PDA's.
One critisism of TomTom is that their customer support is not fantastic. If only they listened to users, we would be able to assist them. I for one could guarantee compatibility with Dell PDA's and even advise them of the necessary files to get it to work on an x5.
So, yes they are missing sales , not only from people who are nervous of shelling out to upgrade but also from the illegal copy market which developed whilst they sorted out an upgrade policy.

Drifter, thanks for your help. I still find it bizzare, esp. when Tom Tom don't test on PDA's they have invested the time to certify them in the past, and based on this customers have bought their product or a listed PDA.
In my mind, Dutch precision or otherwise, there is no excuse for not delivering Excellence as your standard level of customer service. Annoying your customers because you can't schedule a comprehensve testing programme for launch is no excuse - I'm sure there are dozen's of potential beta testers out there............................. me for one !!!

Ciao Drifter,
thank you very much for the files. They works but when I install my maps the tomtom 6 don't see them, like if there weren't on the SD. Any suggestion?

Did you do a hard reset at some point and if so have you reinstalled both the drivers for your Bluetooth card and also re installed the timer upgrade ??
Can you also now confirm that TomTom 6 is working and that this is now your only problem please.

Good, I would however suggest you install the driver and the CF timing update. It might be that TomTom is being a little too clever and not allowing you to select Bluetooth because no drivers are installed.
I suggest you install the drivers and then recopy the files I sent you and reinstall, all should then work.
